New England Film Orchestra returns to the Lowell Summer Music Series for its fifth appearance, presenting a free, family-friendly, and sensory-friendly outdoor concert celebrating the magic of film music. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an unforgettable evening under the stars at Boarding House Park, where audiences of all ages are invited to experience the excitement of a live symphony orchestra in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
This year’s program features music from some of the most beloved films ever brought to the screen, performed by a full symphony orchestra. Audiences will experience unforgettable scores from favorites including Star Wars, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and many more iconic films that have inspired generations of moviegoers. The evening will also include special musical tributes celebrating the 60th anniversary of Star Trek and Lowell’s 200th birthday, honoring both the spirit of exploration and the city’s remarkable history.
Founded in 2019 by conductor and local arts leader Gina Naggar, the New England Film Orchestra is the first orchestra in the Boston area dedicated almost exclusively to the live performance of film and television music, as well as full-orchestra live-to-film presentations. The orchestra is known for dynamic performances that make symphonic music approachable, exciting, and engaging for audiences of all backgrounds—from lifelong classical music enthusiasts to those experiencing an orchestra for the very first time.
Accessibility in all its forms is central to the orchestra’s mission, and everyone is welcome—no ticket required. This performance is designed to be welcoming to all, with sensory-friendly accommodations that help create a relaxed and supportive environment for families, children, first-time concertgoers, and audience members with sensory sensitivities or disabilities.
Join us for an inspiring evening of unforgettable movie music celebrating stories that have captivated generations while honoring Lowell’s 200th birthday in the historic setting of Boarding House Park. Whether you’re a lifelong film music fan or simply looking for a memorable summer evening with family and friends, this concert promises excitement, nostalgia, and the extraordinary sound of a live symphony orchestra under the stars.
