Get to Know Darlene Love: A True Legend Takes the Stage!

We’re thrilled to welcome Darlene Love to the Lowell Summer Music Series on Friday, June 28—a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer whose voice helped define the sound of a generation.

With a career spanning more than 60 years, Darlene Love is a powerhouse performer whose music has stood the test of time. Her iconic hits, including “He’s a Rebel”, “(Today I Met) The Boy I’m Gonna Marry”, and “Da Doo Ron Ron”, made her a standout in the golden age of pop and soul. She's graced stages and studios alongside legends like Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, and Cher—and continues to light up every room she walks into with the same magnetic energy she’s always had.

One of her most beloved traditions was her nearly 30-year run performing “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on The Late Show with David Letterman, making her a holiday favorite and a staple of television history. Her performances became one of the most anticipated moments of the season, blending joy, nostalgia, and the kind of vocal power that stops you in your tracks.

Darlene Love’s story takes center stage in the acclaimed Oscar winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom, which highlights the unsung heroes behind some of music’s greatest hits. As one of the film’s standout voices, Darlene’s journey from uncredited background singer to Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is both powerful and inspiring. Her voice helped shape the sound of an era, and the film beautifully honors her long-overdue recognition as a true music icon.

As if that wasn’t enough to show just how much of a legend she is, Darlene Love was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2011—a moment that celebrated not just her extraordinary voice, but her lasting impact on the music industry. Introduced by Bette Midler and backed by a roaring standing ovation, her induction was a powerful tribute to a career that helped define the sound of pop and soul. You can watch the unforgettable moment—and her show-stopping performance—by checking out the video of her induction.

Darlene Love’s upcoming show at Boarding House Park is your chance to witness a living legend in an intimate, outdoor setting—just the kind of magical night that the Lowell Summer Music Series is known for. We’re honored to host her as part of our 35th anniversary season and can’t wait for you to experience her unforgettable voice live in Lowell.

We hope you can join us at our June 28 show with the incomparable Darlene Love!
